WEIGHT LOSS BENEFITS OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR AND HONEY

Benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar mixed with organic honey has long been used as a healthy detoxification tonic. People have known about it’s benefits for years: in short, it’s no secret. The tonic prevents bloating, aids in digestion, reduces cholesterol and damage from free radicals: it has also been known to clear up minor skin problems.

Additionally, apple cider vinegar and honey have antimicrobial properties that purify blood. Recent nutritional studies have also shown that adding this tonic to your daily diet can accelerate weight loss and help you lose those stubborn pounds.

Sounds wonderful, right? Yet many people avoid drinking this tonic because they think it will be difficult to digest strong vinegar. Luckily for most of us, the regimen involves a gradual increase of apple cider vinegar, helping you to get accustomed to the flavor and effects.

Here is how it works:

  1. Start by adding one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and one tablespoon of honey to a cup of warm water. Drink one serving each morning on an empty stomach.
  2. After a few days, add an extra tablespoon of vinegar to your cup.
  3. Once you start getting used to the tonic, you can add up to two additional servings a day, preferably an hour before each meal.

This system allows you to gradually increase the potency of your tonic at your own speed—based on your body’s needs.

If you haven’t considered taking apple cider vinegar and honey before, here is a list of reasons why you may want to reconsider:

  1. Controls Blood Sugar Spikes

When your blood sugar fluctuates it can not only affect your mood, brain function, and energy levels, you will also most likely  need to binge on sugary or fatty foods that lead to weight gain. This tonic can help you overcome those cravings.

Studies that compared the blood sugar levels of people who consumed apple cider vinegar and honey before a meal with those who just had the meal minus tonic— and the results were surprising indeed.

The vinegar and honey group not only had no high spikes in blood sugar levels after eating, they experienced steady blood sugar levels for up to three hours after the meal. In other words, it means that the tonic helps the body digest the food it eats slowly over time, preventing dips and spikes in blood sugar that would lead to binge eating and mood swings.

This is also a plus for people trying to lose weight because steady blood sugar levels require less insulin production. High levels of insulin generally lead to the storage of blood sugars in fat cells. In response, the fat cells enlarge, leading to weight gain. In short, keeping blood sugar and insulin at healthy levels will keep those extra pounds off.

Over time, your body’s ability to over-produce insulin as a result of high blood sugar is compromised and leads to type II diabetes, so by ensuring healthy blood sugar levels with vinegar and honey tonic you are preventing the onset of diabetes.

  1. Reduces Appetite

The apple cider vinegar in your tonic is especially good at reducing appetite. It can do this several ways. We already talked about how the tonic stabilizes blood sugar levels.  Apple cider vinegar is also rich in dietary fiber. Dietary fiber helps with satiation, or a satisfied feeling of fullness. This will help with portion control and prevent all-day grazing.

Apple cider vinegar is also rich in acetic acid. Acetic acid, the primary ingredient in all vinegar, has been shown in scientific study to have a drastic effect on appetite. In a test setting, subjects who had vinegar and bread were found to feel much fuller than subjects who had same amount of bread without vinegar. And it has a proportional effect; the more acetic acid you consume, the fuller you feel.

  1. Prevents Absorption of Dietary Fats

This phenomena has been reported in studies of acetic acid but till date it has not been largely studied in humans. We know that acetic acid and other compounds in apple cider vinegar and honey have a stimulating effect on the metabolism, which allows for a higher metabolic rate— meaning more calories get burned, but science is only tapping the surface of what acetic acid can do about the storage of fats in particular.

A study was conducted in Japan which fed mice a diet high in fat. Half of the mice were also given acetic acid along with high fat diet. Over time, the study showed that the mice that were given acetic acid gained far less fat than the mice who were only given fat-rich food. This led the scientists to believe that acetic acid plays a role in blocking the absorption of excess fat, or preventing it from accumulating.

One theory is that the acids in apple cider vinegar and honey break down the chains of triglycerides in fats. Fats are absorbed into fat cells in the form of long chain triglycerides. If they are broken into medium chain triglycerides, they are not easily absorbed into fat cells a.

So now that you know how apple cider vinegar and honey can help you shed unwanted pounds you are probably eager to get started on your own daily regimen!

Before you dive in, here are a few tips to get you started:

Always buy organic. One of the main reasons apple cider vinegar is so potent is because it flushes out the toxins that build up in our bodies; the source of the toxins are non organic foods and polluted environments. When buying your ingredients (from any groceries for that matter), choosing the less toxic organic option will hasten the detoxification process.

Stick with local organic honey and apple cider vinegar free of preservatives. It is also important to get organic vinegar that still has the ‘mother of vinegar’ contained within it for the full potency.

If you can’t find this variant of vinegar to suit your needs, it is actually very simple to make it all by yourself.

Never have the tonic by itself. Apple cider vinegar is also known to be extremely acidic. This means you’d rather dilute it in water or another drink for consumption. If you take the mix in its purest form, you can damage the enamel of your teeth as well as you oesophagus and the soft tissue of your mouth and gums. Four ounces of water for every tablespoon of vinegar will be enough to render it safe for consumption.

Try mixing it up. If you don’t enjoy the monotony of apple cider vinegar in water three times a day, there are ways to keep it interesting. For instance, try mixing it with brewed organic tea for more flavor. You can also tweak the amount of honey in your mixture to better suit your taste. Beware, though: adding too much sugar will lessen the effects of the apple cider vinegar.

You can also try using apple cider vinegar in your salad as a healthy and tasty alternative to fattening dressings like ranch and bleu cheese.

Hit the gym! Adding exercise to any new diet will exponentially speed up the results. If you have never exercised regularly before the trick is to start simple. Slaving away for an hour on a cardio machine on your first trip to the gym will lead to incredibly sore muscles and an aversion to coming back to the gym ever again! Stick with fifteen minutes a day the first week, and then bump up to thirty. Don’t forget to take rest days to keep the muscles fresh and give your body enough time to recover.

Drink tons of water. When detoxing, water is essential because all of your bodily toxins need to be flushed out through the sweat and urine. The more water your body has at its disposal, the faster will be the detoxification process. If you are dehydrated you are hindering your detoxification and weight loss.  If you are not drinking eight to ten large glasses of water a day, shoot for that goal first.

Then slowly increase your water intake until you are drinking about an ounce for every pound of body weight. For example a 150 pound man needs to drink about 150 ounces of water.
